Default Synthetic Oil

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows how many miles synthetic oil can go before you should change it. I have heard 4000 miles, is this correct? Also, do you all reccomend one brand over another....i have been using Valvoline synthetic, but have also used castrol and mobil on my other cars....thanks

If you run your car hard I'd still change the synthetic every 3K miles.
All synthetics are probably great but around here most use Mobil 1 or Redline.

I've done lots of research in the properties and limitations of synthetics and they are far far superior to conventional mineral oils. If you drive normal ie. no racing and hard driving you can go 7,500 easy. Drive hard then @ 5,000

The 3000 mile oil change is purely marketing propaganda that Jiffy Lube has implanted into peoples heads. It amazing what a saturating marketing strategy can achieve.

Eh if you do it yourself an oil change with Mobil 1 is $20 bucks every few months or 3K miles. May be overkill, but it's no big deal.

true, but its just like the post about 87 octane vs 89 or 93. It isn't neccary and money down the drain, but if it really makes you feel better then by all means.

I've heard it go both ways... people either stopped or started burning oil with synthetic. Same thing with changes in viscosity. You really have to experiment.
