audi tt 1.8
So Ive had my 97 civic ex for about 5 years now, never had a mechanical problem with it, got all the basic bolt ons, plus an exedy stage 1 clutch, and a lightweight fidanza flywheel, all motor of course, so I wanna upgrade. Theres a 2000 Audi TT 1.8t for $9500 with 110,000 miles, do you guys know if audis are any good or garbage?(at least that model and year of a TT)
They're decent cars, but I wouldn't buy one that has that many miles on it. You could find a 3 series BMW or C 230/240 Mercedes for just a little bit more, with lower miles, in a newer model year that will be more dependable.
Price seems somewhat steep. Its got a bluebook value of only $7k in "good" condition.
That generation is also the most girly looking of the TTs, in my opinion. But I also think they all look like stretched VW Beetles.
As a whole, Audis are simply expensive Volkswagens, and subject to the same issues as they age (can we say electrical gremlins?), but are overall decent cars. I love my GF's 02 A4 1.8T Quattro.

Thats alot of miles, it is a 2000 though.
If you do plan on buying:
make sure to get a full service history, or as much as you can.
Make sure oil changes have been done with atleast full synthetic.
Make sure the timing belt and water pump have been changed recently.
See which coil packs the vehicle has; some versions have a tendency to go bad quickly.
Check the basics as well:
How are the tires? How old? Road hazard coverage or not?
Detail; when did it have it last. how often does he wash the car.
Why is he selling? Is it getting to expensive to maintain or did he get a new one or different make?
Have you driven the car yet? Contacted the owner? Find out why he thinks its worth $9500 when KBB says $7k. Maybe the owner has taken really good care of it and it is worth that price. Most Audi owners are usually pretty good about car care (atleast the ones I know and see everyday).
