Default so machine shop says my ls rods dont fit my ls crank...

heres the story...

i have a b18c1 block, had all the stock stuff in there, i took it to a machine shop that "SPECIALIZES" in import performance. i bought them the block, pr4 rods ATTACHED to pr3 pistons and an LS crank. i told them specificaly, i wanted the crank i brought them in the c1 block, with the pr3/pr4 combo.

well, after a month later of what they told they would take to finish the job, i call them, and they said they finished it! so i rush over there, and they hand me my p72 pistons, and pr4 rods (w/ arp rod bolts, which i brought and they didnt use...) and they tell me theyre all finished up.

i asked them what they were thinking not putting in the rods and bolts i brought them, and they said the pr4 rods didnt fit the ls crank, so they took apart the pr3/pr4 combo, installed the ls crank w/ gsr rods, and pr3 pistons, so now the piston is over-shooting the block, i got near 13:1 cp/r (and they told me it'd be 10.5:1...) , and im thinking "WTF pr4 = LS... why wouldnt it fit??"

so can anyone clear this up for me?? is there a difference maybe between b18a and b18b? i need help asap so i can pick up my motor...

there full of sh#@. all b20/ls cranks are the same, unless the crank was bent or the journals was beyond repair to use. maybe also they didnt know they could just get ride of the oil squirters since the ls crank will hit them. they should have called you if any changes were to be made to ok it with you. they owe you a explination why it wouldnt work. if its just the case of the rods was not the right size for the crank they could have resized them for the clearances they wanted[which if you install arp rodbolts you should resize them anyway]. sounds like they either were lazy and took you for a ride or didnt know what the hell they were doing

i have no idea.. they said the rods were what didnt fit on the crank, so they used the gsr rods instead (rods were too wide).

i went up there last week, and they said the "b16 crank" was damaged, so i went to pick it up, and it had a spun bearing, im thinking they probably mistook it for the ls crank, gave me it, and dropped the gsr crank back in there thinking it was the LS... is there any badging on the cranks i could check? i still got the one i brought home sitting in the back.

on the ls cranks if you look at the counterweights only one of them is machined, while on any vtec crank both is machined. [there machined on the ends]

Apparently you brought them the wrong crank and owe them an apoligy.

how so? i brought home MY gsr crank, which means they got the correct one.. the ls crank. i was just hoping they gave me the wrong crank by accident instead of trying to figure out why theyre telling me it wont fit..

You must have brought them a gsr crank which has narrower rod journals than ls.

no the small end of the ls rods have to be machined to fit gsr, type r pistons.
so you had 3 cranks there at one time. sounds like he shuffled them around and got confused on what was what. you need to take the oilpan off and make sure the ls crank is in there. if so then there should be no reason that the ls rods wouldnt fit. are you sure it was a ls crank you gave him[i mean did you disassemble the block your self]?

they inspected both cranks.. he said one was bigger than the other (he spoke with my brother when he said that). i brought them an LS... even the shop owner confirmed it.

oh, and there was only 2 cranks there, the LS which i brought in a box wrapped in bubble wrap, and the trashed gsr crank which was in the motor, w/ a spun bearing (i didnt know i spun it till they pulled it out and showed me).

basicaly, i brought everything i wanted in a big box, and said "i want this... in there, and everything in there, in this box". done deal.

honestly like furyof4 said. gsr rods/journals are narrower. if he used the gsr rods then maybe you had ls rods and gsr crank in the box, they wont mix and match. you need to confirm what crank is in the block. if its a ls then he has explaining to do,if its a gsr then you need to take don f's advice
