Speedo problem.

Speedo problem.
ok i was on the way home tonight and all of a sudden my speedo started acting dumb. its squeaking
while at 55+. i just replaced it with a brand new one fro honda about 3.5k miles ago. but heres the really weird thing. i accelerated to pass a semi and it sounded like it was grinding and the guage jumped to 95 while i was at 75 and the light dimmed over the speedo only. can anyone help me out plz./ thnx
