Default ghettofabulous air duct

I don'd post here often but I thought I would share what I worked on today to get a little more airflow. This is on a turbo H22 EG by the way, tell me what you think.

I cut out the aluminum plate for the front of the "intake" using the bandsaw:

Here it is after the first cut & a little bending to fit the curve of the bumper (clamped it to my welding table and pushed down, I must be gaining weight):

a little mockup after cutting the Ching Chong pipe, only ballers use masking tape when fabbing ****:

I am well aware of the fact that it looks like a shoe, I would've made the thing more tapered but there is an intercooler pipe right behind it that limits what I can do there.

after some shitty welding:

Then I went to town on the "porting", and gave myself a ton of metal splinters:

Some shitty pics of it sitting in place (it will be painted black and screwed to the bumper):

The car is on the lift so it was hard to get a good shot of it in place. Tomorrow I will make the piping up to the turbo, I will update this thread with more pics.

Just send it off for powdercoating. It looks perfect as-is, just needs something to cover it.

Good work

Here is a serious question though, why do people have CAI on a turbo car when the turbo heats up the air regardless of how cold it is when it enters the turbo?

It's not about it being a CAI it's about getting the turbo all the air it needs.

I am going to make one because then I wont be sucking up all of the hot air from the engine bay. Anything cooler is better.
