Default Question... New to Hondas

alright guys im lookin into buying a 95 gsr with 181k. i was thinking about doing a motor swap for another gsr engine if i bought the car. is there a certain year engine i would have to look for, or would any b18c engine work.

sorry if it has been asked before.

thanks for the help

Why would you swap a b18c1 for another b18c1? If there is something wrong with the motor I would think it would be cheaper to rebuild it vs swapping it out. Unless you have an extra motor sitting in your garage just rebuild it, or build it.

Having 181k miles on it isn't necessarily an indication that the motor still isn't strong.

Very true. Get it compression tested and leaked down do determine the health of the motor, then just go from there. What are your plans for the car? If it's just a daily driver and the motor is good, I wouldn't swap it just for the mileage factor.

I've seen Chevy motors hit far past 300k on them with regular maintenance. 200k should be cake for a Honda motor given it's been up to date with it's maintenance and hasn't been in the redline for much of it's life. If you're not buying it from an old person i'd assume the latter based on the tendencies of us young adults. Why don't you just run it till it goes out, THEN go about the rebuild?

i have 260 k on my motor it is still fine good compression and all just replaced the head cause i thought it was the problem turned out not to be it just the rotor in the dizzy was broke but to anwser your question any b18c is fine or b16 vtec or b20 vtec for that matter but like they said it is so much cheaper to just rebuild it

im wanting a daily but i plan on boosting in the future. so reading the post i will most likely go with a rebuild.

any suggestions for things that will help maintaining a reliable car with boost if i rebuild?

cheap
fast
reliable

you can only have two.

that being said, i would start with ARP rod bolts, and ACL Bearings, past that go all honda bottom end. but the possibilites are endless.

Might be a good time to rebuild it just to be on the safe side. You can swap it but that might end up costing you more. Depend on if you use OEM parts or not.

I say just go for an OEM rebuild, if you plan to boost and DD, I wouldn't recommend it. Most likely if you plan to boost, you plan to USE the turbo for, shall I say entertainment. So you'll probably beat it. IMO, not worth it. If you want a DD, either buy a B18B swap for cheap, or rebuild this one to OEM, and get another car for fun so you don't depend on it if something goes wrong.

well to answer your original question you just need a motor of the same year or newer.

It would be easier to swap an OBDI engine in than an OBDII I'm guessing.
