timing

Default timing

ok i am kinda new to cars so this question might sound dumb.
Well the other day i was a the gas station and another crx si pulled up behind me. we got to talking and he told me that it i advanced the timeing in my car it would really come alive. How to i advance the timing? is it something simple that i could do or what???

Theres 2 ways 1 is a adjustable cam gear, truthfully wont help much on a SOHC. Can also adjust at the distributor, your gonna need a timing light and just follow the manual til you get what is specified. My friend set mine so I'm not too sure on how far you can go though. Just be careful.

also on another note any time u advance your ignition timing u should ALWAYS run premium fuel. and dont just guess and twist. ive seen this too many times, people too lazy to use a timing light just undo the 3 bolts and twist the dist. as far as itll go. then a short time down the road wonder why there motor is shot.

it's like a toy gun!! there are three wires. one of them clips on the #1 plug wire (make sure the arrow is pointing towards the #1 wire) the other two goes to the battery terminals. then you point it to the crank pulley and check your timing...if you want something more specific just ask.....
