Default Honda stopped selling the Genuine Honda Antifreeze?

My dealer told me that Honda has stopped making, (or having it made) their special antifreeze that they told me should be used in the cooling system. I remember the dealer telling me not to use aftermarket stuff, use honda's Genuine stuff. Now the don't sell it anymore according to my local dealer. What is the best alternative to the honda antifreeze?

hello fellow Okie. IMO antifreeze is antifreeze. I use Prestone.

I use prestone as well, good stuff. Many people throw in a bottle of Redline Water Wetter which seems to help a lot.

I dont see any reason you would need Honda antifreeze, just use the proper dilution ratio on whatever you buy. Whatever you do though, DONT GET ORANGE COOLANT! Use green, the orange makes it look like rust and makes it harder to diagnose problems. Prestone in a big yellow bottle

Thanks all, as it is Sunday, the dealers aren't open, I'm in no hurry, I think I might call around on Monday, there are 3 other dealers in OKC here. I saw online that you don't want to mix the the GH honda stuff with the other antifreeze. I know I can flush thorughly, and probably will anyway, but want to stick with the GH stuff if possible.

OEM coolant tends to be better quality, which doesn't leave deposits like the other stuff. I highly doubt Honda doesn't sell coolant anymore. Try another dealer.

kind of off topic but since you talking about flushing coolant. i find it impossible to drain the coolant from the block. (the bolt in the back above the oil pan)

I have not tried this on my lude, but did on my old accord...I could never get it off, super tight and was afraid I was going to break somthing. My solution was the following...

1. Drain
2. Fill completely with distilled water
3. Run engine for 20 min, drive around whatever
4. Drain
5. Fill completely with distilled water.
6. Run again
7. Drain
8. Figure out what roughly what amount of water is left in the block and then fill with antifreeze accordingly. In other words you would not put in 50 antifreeze 50 distilled water now as there is already almost 100% distilled water in the block. You would need to compute that because you want to get as close to a 50/50 ratio as possible.

Lot of work yes, but I sold that car at 275,000 miles.

i just install a flush kit that you can buy for about $3-$5 at an auto parts store. makes things a bit easier. first drain whats in the radiator. install the T from the kit in the coolant line going to the thermostat. open the thermostat(turn the heat all the way up), connect a garden hose to the T that you installed in the coolant line, then use the thing that comes with the kit or put a piece of hose in the top of the radiator(take off the radiator cap) to drain into a bucket. turn on the hose and the car and let it flush the system.
