Go totally Honda dude... but seriously, I don't think it makes that much difference... Prestone is what I use and my **** hasn't blown up yet! People will most likely argue that you should go with Honda fluids because they were "made for the car", but not really that big of a deal... Now if you were asking if you should use Walmart brand or Honda, I think that's obvious. Stick with the name brands and you should be cool! No pun intended!

That is one thing I really don't think would make a difference. Like their brake fluid also. Just use the cheap stuff. One thing though, Honda is going to blue anti-freeze here soon. Same as the green stuff just different color

There are only 2 different places that coolant is made. One is for the green stuff and one is for the new Dex-Cool (orange stuff) at least this is what I was told when i had to take a class on automotive. The green stuff is just poured in to different bottles and then sold to retail suppliers. All comes from the same vats.

Dont use the DEX cool crap.. it doesnt last as long as it says it does but it is required on some GM products.

All the green coolant is the same.. so buying Honda's is no different from anyother one you can get at your local parts location.

volvo uses a special green coolant that doesnt need to be changed. So not all green is the same

Look for a Silicate and Borate free coolant if you are not going to go with Honda.

dex cool is not compatible with your (our) motors. dexcool is a diffrent type of coolant red or dark orange in color.

you can NOT mix and match.

all coolant will have to be changed sometime. all that constant boiling and cooling will make it lose its cooling effectiveness.

the honda stuff is less corrosive for your system.

cooling wise.. i think they're the same.
water alone is what cools best anyways.

and yes you can use dexcool.
even if it is.. GASP A DIFFERENT COLOR!! NOOOOO

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by AUTO WEBSITE &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I would not use DexcoolŽ in a vehicle that did not come from the factory with DexcoolŽ in the cooling system. It would be very difficult, if not impossible, to flush out all the conventional anti-freeze coolant from the cooling system of an older vehicle, and any conventional anti-freeze would contaminate the DexcoolŽ.

Compared to old-fashioned phosphated antifreeze, DexcoolŽ may be more stable and improve water pump life. Evaluations of the two technologies to compare their respective service lives have found them comparable. In fact, a Ford Motor Company study concluded that organic acid coolants do not offer any significant advantages for the consumer over current North American coolants. In a modern car with a well-maintained cooling system, current North American and OEM factory fill coolant corrosion protection can be extended far beyond previous expectations.

So the bottom line is this, if your car came from the factory with DexcoolŽ, use DexcoolŽ for replacement or to top off. If your car came from the factory with standard "green" antifreeze, use that for replacement or to toping off. Case in point, DexcoolŽ has been known to cause head gasket and water pump failure on some Ford OHC V-8's.

Sounds like the "magic" automatic transmission fluid that never needs to be changed in VW's...BS.

yeah, I read about that,
and it's not enough to make me jump on the "DONT USE IT" bandwagon,

I read deeper and there was a flaw with the design of those fords heads, that cause the problem with the dexcool.

I drive a honda, not a ford, so i'm not worried.

I'm using dexcool currently, I thoroughly flushed my system before putting it in,
very thoroughly, ran clean water through the rad plug open, with the block plug open, with the waterpum off, then all at once.
only thing I didnt run through was the thermostat, which would have been better, but oh well.

Also the stuff I used was prestone "dexcool approved" and advertised that you can mix with any color coolant.

its red color is nifty too

well if you ever plan on using redline water wetter dont use prestone..... if u do u will get nice little oil culps in your coolant...

redline water wetter clearly states on their lable not to use prestone with their product

stil go with honda coolant and distilled water

I was going to run water wetter with just normal antifreeze. Is this okay or do I have to worry?
