anyone know what is the best b20 block to run a b20 vtec?
just curious to know which is better before i purchase a crappy one.and also whats the best head to use for a b20 vtec swap.lmk
Some have different compressions....Are u planning on doing anything with the internals? or just going to run it stock? if stock....here is a list of what u should be looking at....
B20
Pros
Great torque (133 ft/lbs)
good boost motors
inexpensive
B20z=146hp
Cons
Thin cylinder walls
Have to peice together a swap for a Civic (can't drop it in with a B20 tranny)
Won't pass BAR (light truck motor in a car)
Low hp in the B20b(126 hp)

Some Cali test inspection bullshit.
If you don't know of it, you probably don't live in Cali, and most likely won't have to worry about it.

make sure you get the CRV b20 block not the old prelude block
200 -220 there is a good write up - on building it reliable. You are going to want a good solid header (at MINIMUM Hytech replica) high flow cat and catback - 3inch intake pipe some head work and I reccomend replacing the pistons and rods in the block as well.

the b20z has a cr of 10.2 and the b20b has a cr of 8.8. depends on your goal as to which one is best for you. the b20b will be more turbo friendly, and the b20z will be best for an all motor application.
if you wanna keep the bottom end stock for all motor than the b20z is the best for a build because it has higher compression pistons. the b20b is best suited for stock boost. If your going to build the bottom block then get a less expensive b20b and change the pistons etc.. the best head in my opinion for a b20 block is a b16 or a ctr head if you have the money.

Exactly what he said...

Yea b20b is what i ran but i built it so i took the slugs out and b16 head is better to use for the money or an itr head if you can get one but if your not fully building it and your not boosting it i wouldnt expect to see anything near 200hp... also i got my block for about $350 in good shape...
