Clean/detail Valve Cover
mine was dried and a little dusty lookin, scrubbed mine down w a toothbrush and mild simple green mix and/or tire foam, wipe down, then i put 303 aerospace protectant on w a small lint free cloth (old sock) or microfiber or something. looks great, holding up pretty good for a week or 2 now.
not sure how bad yours is but you can try that

the one with the side view showing the dizzy, thats about how dirty/dusty the engine bay was. actually left the vcover alone until a couple weeks ago since didn't know if i wanted to paint or not. decided that the paint already on it was still vg condition so i just detailed it.
i scrubbed down the bay w simp gr/water, degreased eng, then sprayed 303 aerospace prot all over, wiped down w mf cloth.
the 303 is excellent imo since not too greasy and doesn't seem to pick up dust and stuff. left the dizzy like that since i wanna change cap n wires sometime soon (my motivation) plus didn't want to take any chances messing near the ignition stuff, though i prob coulda done it anyway.
i can't take credit for all this, i saw it on teamintegra or someplace but i forget right now, need to give the site i saw it on some props.
ok found it
