Default Valve Cover Question

So i'm cleaning up my valve cover and trying to get rid of all the oil on the inside for a clean cover before I paint and was wondering what anyone did to get rid of all that oil residue on the inside? I can't scrub between all the little cracks to clean it well.

Also, anyone have any recommendations on cleaning the engine up and the metal components well without removing the engine or hurting anything around it? Thanks in advance.

No matter how much you soak, degrease, or scrub your motor, it will almost always look dirty. The oily dirt penetrates the metal. The best thing you can do is bead blast it and then paint it. That will seal off the little cracks and all the old residue. It will also make it much easier to clean later. If you can't decide on a color, then just go silver. Then it LOOKS like you got it all the way clean. LOL!

Spray it with oven cleaner and spray it off at the car wash. Same thing as hot tanking it but much cheaper.

yea just spray it with some decent cleaner or degreaser and get out what you can. i would highly recommend you NOT bead blasting the inside of the valve cover. it will be next to impossible to remove all the material that will inevitably be wedged into all the crevices. i'm sure it doesn't take a lot of imagination to figure out what that particulate could do to your valvetrain/engine in general
