I bought a car a while back- and when i bought it the guy didn't know what was wrong with the shifter. Under the steering wheel- the panel was removed- and he would have to plug and unplug something, still dont know what it is. anyways heres a chart on what happens

If the "sensor" is plugged in- The car will turn on- shift fine- but when your going to park- the key wont get released, car will turn off- but wont go back any farther to get the key out

If "sensor" is not plugged- Car will start- but wont shift. You have to put a key next to the shifter to be able to shift. When your going to turn the car off- the key will be released.

Any idea what caused this? The guy did say he replaced the shift **** for an oem one- and since than its been acting up. Im selling the car shortly and would like to fix this for the new owner. Thanks
