I'd stick with ITR springs and maybe a set of titanium retainers. The step up from that would be Portflow inners, and from there - I'd jump to the full Ferrera valve train.

What mods? Maybe Arturo, teken, gsrgrrl, dustin or MarkC. Jk, that was a lame joke.
Well If you are gonna boost it you can get away with it stock. Save the money and do an entire rebuild later down the road.

when is it necessary to upgrade the head? is it if you want to go past redline? or a cetain number of hp? i pretty much learned a lot about the bottom end on this board but not much on the top end..

if you're going to rev beyond stock, I'd definately upgrade the exhaust springs to ITR spec inner and outer. Stock GSR/B16 only has a single spring exhaust side. I'd look at upgrading the valves only if you do head work along with it.

sounds about right, unless the oem valve train is inherently weak

I fit were me...id do a set of crower or webb cam springs and retainers. One thing you have to remember is just because you have a revlimiter, does not mean it stops a motor from over reving. There is still inertia envolved on aceleration. The revlimiter cuts the ignition and doesnt let it revpast that number but it does nothing to stop your motor from reving higher. Also...the boost is going to push against your valves and looking the kind of power you are...i will bet you will have trouble with 400whp...with out doing the complete kit. If you drop a retainer, you can kiss your motor good bye. I think you should do it right the first time because these are parts that should last you even if you did an all out race motor down the line....Mike

would 500-800 dollars cover everything that's needed to rev a little past redline? what would be included? springs.. retainers ?

btw my red line is about 6200... i want to rev probably as high as 8k or so.. safely of course..

just to learn about the engine head... what kind of parts consist of it?

oh yeah... if i go 2mm over on the sleeved block then i would have the increase the the head combustion chamber 2mm over also correct? do i have to go with bigger valves?

would the idle change if the head is modified?
