what exactly does building a turbo head do?
i was wondering what building your head for turbo would do? i mean like, port polish, valvetrain, and cams. i know what a built block does for a turbo car, but what does a head do? specifically a non-vtec head (B18b1). better air flow? i really don't know what else to ask than just that. i really don't know where to begin with this. thanks.

would more flow from the head spool my turbo quicker? and i'm guessing the cams would help in that department also?

The idea with cams is to eliminate the overlap. You can't use wild N/A cams on a turbo set-up, your car wouldn't make power for crap.
Anything that has to do with the head is either for one of two things (I think)
1) To increase flow
2) To withstand high rpm.

And i thought that upgraded springs and retainers are needed for big boost.The springs are stiffer and are able to pull the valve back quicker and provide better seal when the valve is closed.
That‘s what i thought.I‘m still learning on H-T so was i close or way off?

from what im told the b18b sux vs. any Vtec head.
the vtec heads give u the extra lobe in the cam to get that EXTRA flow. if someone is out there can someone post pic or stats from a flow bench w/ both heads STOCK NON vtec head and a STOCK vtec head.
i was goin to just do a FULL LS motor w/ nutty rebuild and big cams, but was talked out of it by alot of people one of them is GEOFF @ FULL RACE (www.full-race.com) talk to him and he will tell u his dealings w/ vtec heads.

yea...i would go LS/vtec turbo, but i don't think i want to risk the reliability. This is my total everything car and i don't know if i want to go that crazy. If i were to get a vtec head it would be with a vtec block. that's just my opinion.

in thereoy a vtec head is the best choice,but in reality,its all up to the builder,there are pros out there that can do what you want,and do it to full max potential,a non-vtec head(b18a/b) can have just as greater affect and performance as a vtec head,the advantage is that it has vtec....look at the guys who run low 10-11 sec on a sohc engines....its generally what you know about the mechanics of an engine,the 4 steps of a motors oporational function,and the proper tools
