Default Vtec Solenoid Leak

Hey All,

I know this topic has been brought up before, but I could not find here or in the archive. I have a 2000 EM1 (B16A2) with a leaking VTEC Solenoid. I went ahead and replaced the gasket/screen, but the leak is persisting.

I've inspected the seal, bolts, block... anything that could contribute to the oil leak. I'm using hand tools, so it is possible the bolts may not be torqued to spec.

So two questions....
1. Anyone else seen this problem? What fixed it? Can I use any type of sealant around the outside of the solenoid without damaging the block/internals?
2. What are the torque specs on the Soleniod bolts? Refer to #31 below.

Thanks guys.

The torque specs should be 10ftlbs for the solenoid bolts, but i had the same problem with mine leaking oil as well. I replaced the gasket three times to figure out that the actual solenoid was cracked. You should also try inspecting the cam seal and the distributor o-ring as well to see if they are the culprits of the oil leak.

It is definitely the solenoid. I can see the oil drip while the engine idles. I did not see any cracks or faults with the assembly... anything else it could be?

They are held in place with Honda-bond from the factory, maybe try using a small amount to ensure the seal is being made? I had to remove mine once but was able to just tighten it back up and called it a day with no issues.

Hope that helps
