ive just noticed that there looks to be some oil leaking through where the solinoid bolts to the motor.

question is is there a gasket there and should i be worried about it leaking?

Yes, there is a gasket that sits in between the solenoid and the head. Over time it becomes hard and brittle and may leak. It's a cheap and easy fix, just make sure you repalce it with the engine cold and torque to spec.
