Default What are the chances of my rods breaking?

I was thinking about running some 12:1cpr pistons in my c5. What are the chances of my stock ITR rods snapping?

Also I have 1mm oversized valves, would my pistons come in contact with the valves?

Just trying to get an idea of what I wanna do.

*******note... typo. 1mm oversized valves not pistons. *************

depends how much power the motor is making.....if it's all stock besides the pistons then your rod bolts will let go before the rods will.

when pistons are "oversized", it's in the diameter, which will not affect the valves.

next time might I recommend >>> https://honda-tech.com/zerosearch

do some reading up on these topics. if you're asking such questions then I'm not sure you're ready to do a motor build JUST yet

You'll be fine, I did this for over 40,000 miles, driving the **** out of my car virtually everytime I was in it.

I've got ARP rod bolts and head studs, 9,300limiter and 18k miles under it's belt so far

granted all 18k miles weren't ON the limiter, but it isn't driven like miss daisy, plus it has track work on that

Why the 1mm over sized intake valves? What kind of build?

I run ARP's in the rods and for headstuds on stock ITR rods/pistons.....and I spend a rediculous amount of time near redline on track. I rebuilt it myself, broke it in for 100km's, then did almost 40 dyno runs, and have beaten the **** out of it since March of this year.....it's been perfect for me. Lots of poeple are quick to dismiss the strength and durability of stock honda pieces.......I guess saying more names inside your motor feels better

When I bought it, it was originally built for turbo with supertech valvetrain, 1mm oversized valves. bolted onto a fully built LS block. LS vtec with a 84mm bore, darton sleeves, 9:1cpr JE pistons, and manley rods.

But I bent 2 valves so i replaced the whole valvetrain with ferrea. I sold the turbo kit and going back to NA because I tore that motor apart 3 times already. Now I just got done refreshing the type R block and planning to put it back in. I bought some skunk2 pro 2 cams but i was told it would never work because of the 1mm oversized valves. So I sold the pro2's and now getting the pro1's this coming weekend. Hopefully that should give it a little bit more valve to valve clearance. As for the pistons, im planning to run standard 81mm diameter pistons with a 12:1 or 12.5:1 cpr CP pistons. But Im not sure if I should because the head's been milled a few times already. =/ Im not sure if the high dome will clear the valves.

I was told that the stock rods might not hold the 12:1cpr pistons so I held back on putting them in. But I now that I have to wait a while longer yet, I was thinking about putting them in. Haven't ordered them yet, but maybe I'll clay the stock pistons and see how much valve to piston clearance I have first.
