I'm getting my car re-smogged tomorrow after failing last month due to high "HC"...Anybody know what is an "HC" , HydroCarbon? How can I lower the HC numbers? i didnt realize that I was running low octane (87) gas, last time I went...could this be the reason? Maybe putting in supreme unleaded and a bottle of octane booster should do the trick?
put in higher octane gas, maybe some injector cleaner. and never bring your car right over there, drive around for atleast 15mins so that it can warm up. how badly did you fail?
Do you have a fuel pressure regulator? I failed, dialed down the fuel pressure, and viola! passed with no problems.
But do as Hcivic says as well; hopefully, you'll be able to pass without having to deal with the cat and others silliness.

I thought I did pretty good...the referree didnt notice the jdm header underneath the heatshield, lol. but had me take out the CAI because "it wasnt for an Acura"... insisted that I put back the stock airbox when I return...First of all, i told him that the CAI that I have is carb legal, 2nd the stock airbox would not fit because the LS throttlebody is larger. Another thing he made me do, is replace my single wire O2 to a 4 wire heated sensor. Did all of em this weekend...I found a GSR intake arm and attached it to the stock airbox. Works pretty good without the throaty sound and still managed to beat a LS teg on the freeway yesterday afternoon...
run the car kinda hard on the freeway.....if your hc levels dont go down you might need to get a new cat......my car didnt have a cat....hc levels were at 525....max is supposed to be 130....i still passed though

Hey EF_LSVtec I see you're running a 97 LS motor, what wiring scheme are you using? OBD-0 OBD-1 or OBD-2? Did they give you any problems about the wiring? And what ECU are you using. I see you're here in the bay area, what Referee are you going to.... GOOD LUCK!

Running obd0...91 teg distributor and injectors, PR4 ECU. At first I told em I have a 91 motor...but the engine code B18b gave it away...He didnt say anything at first but his student assistant noticed the B as suppose to an A. I just said, "thats good then, because I got a newer motor than what I ordered...Anyway, I went to the one in Fremont, by Warm Springs road (this is my second time). About the wiring, I didnt think they know the difference...all they did the first time was look underneath the car and check the o2 if it has 1 or 4 wires, thats about it.
