anyone running type-s pistons with stock h22 cams?
anyone with this setup chime in. i want to know if youve had any problems idle issues and so on. im tying to find out if i can run this combo without any major issues
yeah...i have those pistons std bore with eagle h-beam rods. skunk 2 cam gears but stock valve train, but my intake and exhaust valves have a 5angle grind on them, and my head is glass beaded and your normal i/h/e with a neo tuned i put down 174whp and 135lbs. No major issues that i regret but be prepared for more oil consumption!!!
I can't imagine why you'd have any problems with stock cams. With a high CR like that over stock, you will DEFINITELY need tuning of some sort. Your idle will be fine with stock H22 cams as well. The only time I'd worry about that high of CR and cams, would be going to an aggressive cam profile... Stock, however, shouldn't be a concern.
And I have no idea why preludin would say:

If the pistons were installed correctly, on healthy cylinder walls, there should be no further oil consumption than usual.

If you got hella oil consumption then something went wrong during Your motor rebuild. If you strictly follow the Helms, replace old gaskets with new, and not screw up your piston ring install then i don't see why you would have oil comsuption that is more than usual for the h22 motor. Pistons do not eat oil. As a result of poor installation .. oil is being burnt and/or wasted by traveling to places that it shouldn't see.
