ocerheating, check engine light
ok so i was out and about riding threw town when i noticed my temp gauge was burried in the hot zone. so i drove it home and before i got into the driveway my check engine light came on. i figured maybe the thermostat was bad even though i replaced it not to long ago. so i took out the thermostat and put in some coolant. now when i drive after 2 mins or so the check engine light came back on. Now i know since its not winter and freezing outside that i can ride around with no thermostat and just let it run freely. ive done a radiator flush to it not to long ago to. the car never was like this before. all it did was get a little hot and then bump back down to medium. but for some reason on the highway it was burried in the hot zone and it never came back down like it use to... any ideas what might be causing this problem? its a 1994 honda civic dx
My check engine light came on a couple days ago, i was over heating on the interstate, my head gasket blew, check your fluids if your not leaking any fluid its probably being burnt meaning cracked head gasket
well i would think if it was a blown head gasket it would be puffing smoke. but the engine is running fine and theres no smoke. maybe the water pump???
my head gasket went recently, no smoke. what cel is it mine threw a coolant temp sensor code. do a compression test fast and easy and it will give you a pretty good idea pretty quick if you blew it, mine was 1-4 185 150 95 130. good luck
im going to go out today and get a compression tester. if it turns out my head gasket is gone, how bad is it to replace it yourself? is it worth it?. also what should the psi be on each cylinder? probably 140-150 on a car with almost 200000miles on it im guessing

i havnt done mine yet( no $ lol) but give me a week and ill let you know. and for the comp i belive it should be around 175- 185 but i could be wrong and they should be close something like 20 psi apart or closer, again i think good luck
Is it worth replacing the HG? No, If its a DX its got a D15B7 in it, those things are basically good for boat anchors after they've been overheated. Drop in a low mileage JDM engine and save yourself a lot of grief. Doesn't have to be anything special, even a SOHC non-vtec, they don't cost that much and theres no extra wiring involved, just pull the old engine and drop the new one in.

Everyone seems to love hmotorsonline, its not where i bought my swap from, but i've only heard great things about them. As for price, after checking hmotors i see a SOHC non vtec engine for $425 + shipping, but it appears to be OBD0, could be used but you would need to swap components from your old engine. Or a D15B Vtec for $525 +shipping $600 with ECU. add another $250 if you want the close ratio 5 speed that goes with it. There are other engines out there, thats just all i happened to see that looked good from hmotors right now, look around and see what other companies have to offer. Good luck
