I just recently finished installing a B18A1 in my crx, I was wondering if I have to replace my pistons in order for the cylinder head swap to work. Because I asked, I was researching wheather or not to replace the pistons on a 1993 B18A1. I was reading on a couple of articles, it did not say to replace the pistons. I know that If I wanted to higher my compression and HP, I do need to replace my pistons( thats just for building the internals), along with cams, dual springs, and titanium retainers. If any body has any info on this topic, it would be greatlly apreaciated . Also, would the aftermarket cams that I bought for the B18A1(Crower with dual springs and titanium retainers) fit in the B16 cylinder head.

I'm in a similiar situation with you. So let me try to help you out. (If I'm wrong please correct me)
I have a JDM B20B w/ B17 vtec head from 92-93 GSR. First of all, you don't NEED to get new pistons for vtec head to work. But you might want to, because you won't be able to use stock pistons with the high profile cams i.e. skunk2, jun, etc. The reason being is that the piston pockets on stock non-vtec pistons are too small for vtec valves. I think the vtec valves are 33mm compared to non-vtec valves' 31mm. If you advance your cam timing too much, the valves will actually start hitting the top of your pistons.
So to save your from all the hassle later on, and get forged pistons and rods for your engine. You'll need both to rev up your car past 7k safely.
