Default Question regarding timing...

I'm about to pull my vc off of my d16y8 to paint it VSM to match my car but I have a question about it. What is the correct way to pull the sparkplug wires off in order to not screw up the timing? I'm weary off this kind of stuff because when I was a young ricer I was replacing my oem plug wires with some ebay ones and I just yanked em off in no order at all and screwed up the timing bad and ended up getting a new dizzy because of it . I have searched for hours and found plenty of diy's to for painting the vc but they all skip the step of removing the plug wires... everything after that seems pretty easy. Any help at all is appreciated. Thanks.

take it off from the valve cover only, and then put them back in the same order when your done..... the length of the wires should be enough to tell you where the plugs go.

Ok, so leave them connected to the distributor cap? I guess I will take them off 1 at a time from right to left. The length of the wires should help when i put em back on and theyre NGK wire so theyre numbered also . I kno this is a stupid question but do you have to take the spark plugs out to remove the vc or do I not need to touch them? Thanks again.

Ok when I took them off I went from right to left one at a time #1-4. What order do I put them back? #1-4 or #4-1?

It doesnt mater what order you put them in just as long as they go back to the same one they were on originally. and dont over torque your cover bolts they only need like 5lbs or something.

you dont need to take the sparkplugs out. And dude, the order really is pretty easy when you take the length of the plug wires into perspective. haha quit worrying so much.

Yea I already knew not to take the plugs out I just wasnt thinking

And I knew not to overtork the bolts cuz I've heard of people snappin em alot

Sorry I was worrying so much about the timing and order of the plug wires and ****... I just didnt want what happened last time to happen again. But once I thought about it it was pretty easy

The vc is now VSM to match my car... looks perfect... especially against the blue NGK wires. And I think it looks sexy with the letters all polished

Thanks guys!

I would mark the wires with some labels, draw a picture of which one goes where, and take some pictures. You won't have to question yourself when you're all done..

And it wasnt that I didnt know where the wires went back to cuz my NGK's are already the correct length and they come prelabeled 1-4. It was just that I didnt know the firing order.
