Default Smoother idle?

so after replacing my spark plugs, cap and rotor im still getting a bit of a misfire, stumble, just inconsistent idle. like every 3-5 seconds the vibration will blip a bit and i can feel it. VERY minor, its not horrible. im just being really picky and want to know, what ELSE is there to do?

my valves are tapping a bit, i could do a better job next time. but does this affect idle?

idle is set at 750. timing is right in the middle.

what else can i look into? cleaning sensors? which, how?

88 Si intake manifold, so i think its missing a sensor or two that may or may not matter.

i just want it to PURRRRRR....

Spark plug wires could cause that. I bought a car that would not rev over 2k. It was just the wires.

im starting to think that as well.

i replaced my #1 plug wire with a spare i had laying around and it does seem a bit more settled. so i guess that had a lot to do with it.

plug wires are definately important!

and i have a new set of NGK's in my hand. but i wonder about the quality of these wires now... when i pulled the old NGK wire off, the plug at the distributor came off!

Crappy valve seal (valves sealing to seats) may also be your issue. How many miles are on your head?

the engine is in pretty good shape actually. i call it my cherry engine. got it with only 45k verified miles in 2002. used it for 2 years and stored it and just recently put it back in. so cant have too many more miles. but i did do a season of racing in those 2 years.

smog is great with the engine btw. its still almost 20 years old of course.
