weird idling
ok...my car is real retarded now. it never wants to start on the first crank in the morning. and recently after it's warmed up, it idles as low as 500. i know a good idle is at 750. i'm wondering if maybe i have a misfiring or something? cause nothing was wrong until i adjusted my valves. i don't hear any tapping from my valves although. maybe it's time i just change my distributer cap and rotar along with my spark plug wires? i changed my plugs back in february. has this idling case ever happened to anyone? the low idle worries me because when i go into neutral to stop at a light or something, my car sounds like it's gonna die off cause it's dropping all the way to 500 and it's like studdering. any input would be nice. thanks

Re: weird idling (LiTtOGPiMp)
same **** happened to me, i did a valve adjustment and the idle started to get real low like 500 RPM and feels like its going to die whenever in neutral correct? Mine bounces back up when its about to die then it goes back down then up, its weird i hope someone knows how to fix this because its been annoying for a few months now

I had an erratic idle for a bit that sounded like yours...revving up then down, up and down...quite embarassing at a redlight with a noisy exhaust. I at first thought it was a vacuum leak so I changed the intake manifold gasket [a pain in the ***] and all my vacuum lines, but it still didn't fix the problem. I finally just got a complete manifold [sensors and everything] and swapped it in and it fixed the problem. I think it was either the IACV or the little thing below the TB.

hmmm...i haven't checked my timing for serveral months now, but i'm out of school now and have no way of getting to a timing gun. i'll just ask around to find one. stock timing for a 99 civic ex is 16 correct? i forget lol
as for the plugs, they were last changed in february, i think it was around 40k...wires, cap, and rotor are still the same from when i bought it last year.
my car is only at 50k now and is having some weird problems. my instrumental lights haven't been working this week, so i drive at night not knowing how fast i'm going...lol

Re: (LiTtOGPiMp)
According to the Helm's manual, a 1999 EX, when warm and under no load (no a/c or headlights) it should idle at 450+/-50 rpm. With the lights and/or A/C on, it will idle, when warm, somewhere around 750.
Mine idles at those two speeds under those conditions.
So it doesn't sound to me like you have a problem at all. You are probably extra aware because you've just changed something and want to make sure it's not screwing anything up.
Hope this helps!

The O2 sensors are plugged with carbon also the throttle body... The dealer will ask for 800 to fix it but I got in a fight with toyota (southbay) and the HQ and got it done for free.
