Default Supercharger Sound?

I was just curious what determines how loud the wine of a supercharger is? Is it the amount of boost or the supercharger itself?

TIA

The RPM of the engine.

The RPM of the engine determines the RPM of the supercharger, the sound is created by the gears, which are straight, not angled like your 1st through 5th gears on your transmission.

They're straight like the idler gear in reverse, which is why the car whines in reverse.

I understand the more RPMs you spin the louder the whine. I was just curious why some superchargers whine is ungodly loud, then others are almost silent.

Type of supercharger.

There's a few types of superchargers, three main types, there's the roots supercharger, the twin screw supercharger, and the centrifugal supercharger.

A centrifugal supercharger and roots supercharger are the most common applications for low displacement 4 bangers like Hondas and the like. Twin screws are a lot less common.

It depends on the type of supercharger, The Eaton supercharger uses straight tooth gears, which is why it makes some noise. Depending on the type of supercharger, and the RPM it's operating at, defines how the noise will be.

A centrifugal for example makes little noise, it's much like a turbo (same concept, same design, different spool method), while the Eaton supercharger in the cooper S uses straight tooth gears and is more "whiney" - though since it tops out at 6.5k or so (redline), you don't hear it to 8500 RPM like you would with a GSR.

Eaton.

Those dual gears are teh straight tooth gears that give the whining noise, much like the idler gear that's used when you put your car into reverse.

EDIT:
PS: The Eaton is a roots type supercharger, in case you didn't know or were wondering.

Yeah, they make really good ones too, but they're very expensive.

I was curious of the same thing. Im looking for about 240whp. I think Ill go with JRSC because they are HIGHLY recommended and seem to be on the least expensive side.

Yeah, that's what I would do if I decided to boost a honda with a supercharger.
