belt burned smell under the hood
I have '95 Accord V6 EX. Recently after I turned on the engine I could hear the rattling noise. But if I turned on the air conditioning the noise would be reduced. Now it has always had the burned rubber smell while driving. Until two weeks ago it finally came in little smoke under the compartment box area. I don't know what I should do with it. Since the car is not worth much. I'd like to get the suggestions and then decide to "fix it" or "sell it as is". By the way, does any one knows I can get a mechanic (side work rate) in Madison WI area? Thank you.
There is no light on my dash board. I wonder something is wrong BELT, COMPRESSOR because that is the area producing noise and burned smell. Thank you for the replying soon.
What should I do to avoid the belt fraying and burned smell? Do I have to replace the A/C Compressor? I was going to sell the car before the problem came out. Now what would be your suggestions? Any idea where I can find a mechanic to fix my car instead taking into the car shop. Thank you very much.
It depends.
1) Turn the a/c off. If the compressor spins freely, leave the a/c off.
2) Turn the a/c off. It doesn't spin. (maybe) get belt for no a/c car and bypass.
3) Have freon professionally evacuated, change compressor, recharge with freon.
4) Have mechanic do full repair.
Ask coworkers, family & neighbors about there mechanics.
I'd bet somebody will know somebody that knows somebody that works
at a dealership, have them ask the techs. Alot do side work.

I got someone came to check the car. I had to turn on the A/C in order to keep the noise lower. The mechanic thought it could be the pulley problem ( by the compressor). He snapped (cut off) the belt on that pulley and then that part would not spin. He told me I could drive it without the belt, except using the A/C. Now I'd need to order the part and they would charge me $100 for the labor cost. by replacing the part, oil change and the front brake pads. I will let you know if it gets fixed later. Thank you.
This evening I also found out another problem around the engine gasket area. It came out little white smoke after little test driving. There is no overheat signal or light come out on my dashboard. need some suggestion and advice. Thank you very much.
