Default Cam Seal Problem: A Change in OEM Design?

I bought an OEM cam seal and was supposed to install it this weekend. When I compared the old seal to the new one, I found they were completely different. The old seal is rubber while the new one is all plastic. Also, the design of the seals are not the same.

Old one (seal on the left):

New one (still in package):

On the invoice, they hand-wrote the new part number for the cam seal. I'm just a bit unsure about using it since it's drastically different. Anyone have any info?

I got it for $5.50 from A&H Motorsports. Dirt cheap compared to the STR.

Seals such as the cam seal deteriorate over time. You can't just keep on sealing it with silicone forever.

The "fuss" was about the new design and whether or not it was the correct part.

When you buy a gasket kit from acura, the kit comes with both seals and gives you the decision of choosing one. You should be able to buy the old design at the dealer if needed. Personal opinion of mine is that the new design is good.

New part release. Looks much better than the original, I have not seen it before though. I'd still opt to use the STR because of the dual o-ring sealing, but I'd guess that this would work really well for the price.

Just wondering, aproximatly how much does the gasket kit from acura cost??? I have some cam seal leakage going on and have just let it go. Will I need to replace the fluids and stuff. Thanks

How do you get the old seal out? Do you just take out the two bolts above it? Mine leaks and the Helms manual doesn't say out to take it out. Thanks

I'm not sure about the RS, but for my car I had to remove the valve cover, cam rails, and a cam holder.
