Default on the topic of trannys

so I am having a hard time shifthing, a lot of times it's getting into reverse, and some times it's getting into third or fourth gear. When I am idling in first gear, and a stop and I rev and roll back a lil bit you can hear what sounds like something rattling around in the tranny. What do you think it could be?
And now my 2nd question. If by chance I need to get a new tranny, ( I have decided that if I do I am going GSR) do I have to adjust any of the mounts, or is there anything special that I need to do to mount it up to my LS block?

I haven't replaced it yet. The person that I bought it from had it replaced before he bought the car and it only has about 70k on it

well youll know when you take your tranny off. buy a b16 tranny. its the best single upgrade for your ls. youll have to pull some dowel pins from the block and tranny to get them to line up, but besides that its all plug and play.

too short for ls...ls only revs to 6.9k safely so it would put extra stress on the ls engine

How would it put stress on the engine? You just wouldn't have much rev room to accelerate after an upshift.

thats true but it was mated to an ls tranny back in production, you slap on a super short gearing tranny, its not going to be use to the high rpms hence the extra stress.

It's not going to be used to the high RPM in 5th, not just in general. There's nothing about the transmission that magically raises the rev limiter. Be more clear with your statements.

since it is a manual transmission you make the shifts.... and you can shift at any time. So no additional Stress will happen. unless you mean that when you shift out of say 2nd at close to 6.8k and throw into third its going to be at a higher RPM than the LS tranny would be you would be correct. But that makes really know difference. Get the b16 tranny, put the ls 5th gear in it and run it all day long my friend. Be Safe Have Fun
