Default Questions mounting an external fuel pump

Is it okay to mount the fuel pump (Aeromotive A100) directly to a steel plate and/or the chassis? Should there be rubber in between the pump and the metal to dampen the vibration? Does having the pump touching metal affect grounds or anything? Thanks for the info.

I would highly recommend using rubber mounts. You can get them from summit, Mcmaster-Carr, etc. or make your own vibration isolators.

Can the pump get damaged if it's not mounted with rubber mounts?

Just use rubber. The vibrations are INSANE without them

Also be careful when to tighten the terminals, they can spin easy and break the wire on the back. You can send it back and they'll fix it...been there, done that.

I only brought this topic up because I've been having a heck of a time with this new pump and I'm running out of possible causes. It doesn't seem to maintain pressure or is losing power or something. I've sent it back to Aero for testing, they said it was fine, got it back and it worked perfect for a day or so. Now it's back to the same issue with pressure drops, really rough idle (if the car does manage to even start), and stalling. I've ordered the rubber mount kit and I'll make sure I don't over tighten the terminals. Urgh

How are you powering the pump? Sounds like an electrical issue.

I definitely would use a rubber mount, when I had my twin-bosch setup I used brackets made for the pumps on a plate we did and had them wrapped in electrical tape, worked great.

What size wiring are you using for the pump?

20 ga will work, right?

where is it mounted in relation to fuel level?

I'm using the Painless Wiring relay kit which draws directly from the battery and a 10 gauge ground to the chassis.

The pump is mounted lower than the fuel cell. With 10AN inlet and 8AN outlet lines, and a 6AN return.

I've been thinking it's an electrical issue also which is why I was asking if mounting the pump to the chassis could affect the grounds. Just don't know what else to check..

It's a brand new filter. The one that Aero says to use with this pump.

12 ga wire from the battery to the relay and to the pump. The factory wire then goes to the relay.

When I turn the ignition ON, you can hear the pump turn although it sounds like its struggling and it doesn't build much pressure, just a few psi registered on the gauge at the fuel rail.

Mine would get hot and start to stall my car like if it was running out of gas, even tho I knew it had plenty....Seems when it gets hot it does not want to pump fuel.. You need a voltage controller. It becomes very annoying having to wait 15 minutes for the pump to cool down enough to build pressure again....

I don't think he needs the controller. I ran both the A1000 and the eliminator in my street car for long periods of time with no issues.

Your wiring size sounds good. Check to make sure your lines are not pinched somewhere under the car. Or that you have something clogging/blocking your sump/feed hole in the tank.

Aero's installation instructions say to use 10 ga from the battery source to the pump. The relay kit came with 12 ga for that wire.

By lines pinched do you mean wires or fuel lines? The fuel lines are definetly not pinched. I was going to rewire the switched ign wire that goes to the under dash fuse box. I was having an issue at first where the under dash fuse was blowing as soon as I turned the ign ON. Maybe there's some stripped wiring or something under there going on? It's pretty much all factory wiring still under the dash.

You need to get the power for the Alt, the battery might not be sending the right voltage back there at all times, i had that problem.
