Simple IAB question
If you look in the FAQ's at the top of the prelude forum there will be a downloadable service manual. It will tell you exactley how to check it.
Now an easy way to check it is to have someone start your car while you are looking at the engine/intake manifold. There is a little valve thing that looks kinda like the throttle body valve thing. If it switches postions when you turn the car on it is more than likley working correctly. If you car has no power above about 5K rpm they might not be opening.

Just pop the "bonnet" and manually operate the throttle pulley and watch the IAB diaphram actuate around 4000rpm. If it does anything at all it's probably working.
IAB's won't stop your car from starting I don't think. IAB's are auxilary runners that allow more air in ( I think anway) at around 4800 rpms approximately?? The diapram switch located on the right side of your throtle body/intake manifold see's a certain vacuum, and opens your IAB's. They are made to increase upper torque I believe
What exactly is your car doing when you try to fire it up. AND be SPECIFIC right from when you turn the key.
Any cels?
error codes?
What work has been done to the car recently?
Every detail you can think of put it out here!

Alternatively, watch them as you start the car. If it moves it's probably working as well.

Well it only takes vacuum to close them. It takes an ECU activated solenoid to open them at the right rpm or they'll stay shut and will hurt top end power.

OoooooooooooooooooR he could use a decent piece of wire and jump the +12v starter solenoid from the battery's positive terminal 30cm away... He better just be careful it's in neutral or he might get a car parked on top of him.

Basically, we've just put an h22a in my civic. Everything is hooked up as it should be but we're still getting starting issues.
We managed to start it on 3 cylinders but when you use the correct firing order, it doesn't want to know.
