Default Falling out of Vtec (k20a2)

Do you rsx-s owner's find it easy to fall out of vtec on a shift into second? I have to rev it as high as possible in 1st and shift faster than I'm comfortable to keep it in vtec. Almost always get tire chirp into second. Is this normal?

Since Vtec engagement is at 6000rpm on a stock K20A2 you have to redline the motor and shift fast in order to say in the 6k rpm range. If you're switching at 7000rpm and slow you will fall out out Vtec range all day.

My type S is the same way. Short throw, mabey a fly wheel, or spend the money and get Hondata and problem solved.

I shift at 8200 rpm and I never fall out of vtec. But if you shift before that, theres a good chance it will fall out of vtec.

If you slow the time the shift takes, it's exactly the same with a short shifter. A shifter is purely mechanical.

Putting a block of wood on top of your gas pedal doesn't make your car faster, you just don't need to extend your foot as much.

Short shifters move the cables stretching them therefor putting more pressure on the syncros. If short shifters came with cables it would be a different story.

The only short shifter I had was on an Accord and it moved one linkage up higher but with the shorter throw, it never had to travel more than normal. I don't know, I had that shifter for a loooong time, the guy I sold it to still has it (on shortest throw) with no problems. Motor/tranny probably has around 170,000 miles now.

Anyways... I'm saving for Kpro.
