"MSD 6A" Ignition Hookup Question
I have 1.8 type R and was attempting to hook up a MSD 6a ignition box to my factory internal coil. I was just woundering if anyone else hooked up a msd box to their acura or honda. The problem i had was that there is a power wire (black w/ yellow stripe) that runs to the coil, the stock amplifire, and the ignition key. Therefore I wasnt sure if i was supposed to run that wire to the incoming or outgoing part of the MSD box. if anyone can suggest something, let me know. thanx
would i notice a noticable difference from the blaster? and i would have to probobly change the gaps on the plugs right?
both of the original wires from the coil hook to the 6a input. the blk/yl goes to msd red, the tach wire ?color? goes to msd white. then black and orange from msd go back to coil terminals.
it will work perfectly fine with the oem coil, but an aftermarket coil will give better output. if you want to keep it inside the dist. get an accell/mr gasket/g sport part# 11076 hi output coil from autozone or summitracing.com about $50-$70, or get an msd ss blaster for around the same price.
hope this helps.

Actually I believe I fried my stock coil when hooked up the 6A box. The diagram and directions said to hook the white input wire of the box to the negitive terminal of the stock coil position which i dont think is the tach but rater the Ignition Control Module output. The car started right up and idled for about 20 mins., drove off and reverd it up down the block, then about 5 min's later the car started to mildly backfire which progressively got worse until it just sputtered, died, and didn't wanna start back up again. I thought the gas ran out but it turns out that I later on ran a test to see if there was spark going through the MSD box and instead of the spark running through the output on the coil, the spark was arching inside the coil's internals. So i hope that I just overpowered the coil with the MSD box and didn't miswire something. So I just bought a Blaster 3 coil. Now im just waiting on a coil tower terminal i ordered to arrive so I can hook the Blaster up and see if the car starts.
not to pawn stuff off in the wrong place, but i have two blaster ss coils for sale if you are interested, also too bad you laready have the msd 6a i have one for sale as well. pm if you are interested. by the way i love msd on honda na engines!
