Your transmission will be damaged. How bad no one knows. Fill it up and hope for the best.

found out the hard way...I believe this was due to an unnoticed leak. pulled tranny apart no oil drained. just a bunch of pieces of gears.

Do you remember any sounds coming from the transmission before you pulled it apart ?

yes, I was actually on the way to change my oil at my dads garage when this all happened. I was going to investigate the tranny problem as well. the sound i was hearing was a slight grindingish noise at certain rpm's. i'd def at the least drain all the oil and pump some more in there. chekc the old stuff for debris. i think capacity is 1 or 2 quarts. 10W30 or honda MTF is what my shop manual tells me to use.

With me, the sound is there at Idle and rpms below 2700, after that I can't hear this grinding sound any more. The sound is not so much as a metal grind, but rather a sound that something is loose and rubbing, sometimes a squicking sound as well. -- All this coming from an area right near the distributor, maybe under it ...

Sounds like at least a (or more) bearing needs to be replaced.

I just completed the flush and refill of my Manual Transmission on my USDM 4th-Gen Vtec. To my surprise, all of the old 1.9L of fluid came out during the flush. By that time I already bought 2 quarts of MTF and went ahead with the refill ,, added some new crush washers as well for the fill and drain bolts.

This noise is still there and I will investigate it when the weather cools down a bit.

Anyone know if the distributor could be the culprit to this rubbing and squiking noises .. ?

i've heard of people filling up the tranny with like 2.3-2.5qts to fill it up entirely. any thoughts on the negatives/positives?

Went to Honda today and bought 2 quarts of Honda MTF. That's all you need for the 4th gen 'ludes. I actually had about 20 mL remaining in the 2nd quart when the fluid started to leak out of the fill hole.

Figured out my problem earlier today .. The distributor has ( 3 ) 12mm bolts holding it to the cylinder head. The bottom bolt was loose. I also took apart the distributor and lubed the metal shaft that rotates 'cuz it was bone dry and squicked when turned by hand. After all is said and done .. those noises that I first noticed about 3 days ago are now gone. Thanks guys.

Your noises are gone for now. But they will return if you do not find the source of your problem. Transmission leaks on these 5 speed trannies are a pain in the ***. I had one all winter long, and every week, id have to top it off in the freezing cold weather. I finally fixed the problem, after locating the source of the leak.

I used JB Weld on the tranny, and it worked like a charm.
