Just got car smogged... anyone knowledgeable on the topic of emissions?
1994 Accord EX, stock cat, stock exhaust, stock headers, AEM CAI, NGK iridiumIX plugs and ngk wires.
well all in all my results have improved from 2 years ago, as well as my gas mileage (25-27mpg now vs 20-22mpg back then). I've replaced the spark plugs/wires, added a AEM CAI, switched to 5w30 (from 10w30) and used seafoam on the car. Anything else I can do to tune up the car?
How are my results? they seem much higher than the average they list. Should my hydrocarbon count be of any concern? and would lowering the count result in better mileage/efficiency? anyway to do that?
I have :
15mph
RPM: 1720
%CO2- measured 14.9
%O2 - measured 0.1
HC (PPM) MAX-87, average-17, measured 70 (this seems high?? how to lower it?)
CO%- MAX-.51, average- .05, measure 0.14
NO (PPM) - MAX-1001, average 74, measured-373
25mph
RPM: 1784
%CO2- measured 14.8
%O2 - measured 0.1
HC (PPM) MAX-57, average-5, measured 42 (seems high again, anyway to lower it?)
CO%- MAX-.49, average- .02, measure 0.31 (sorta high?)
NO (PPM) - MAX-861, average 78, measured-143
oh and lastly..... which part of emissions does a working PCV valve deal with? Mine is actually broken but i just put it on anyways, havent gotten around to picking up a new one.

Did you drive the car about ten miles before going to the testing station? Did you keep your rpms around 2000 while waiting in line? Those are a couple tricks to help pass the tests.
Also my pops told me that using Amoco premium fuel helps too b/c it's cleaner burning than other fuels....is there some truth to this?

seafoam is a carbon cleaner, I injected it thru the PCV valve vacuum line (and thats how i broke the valve) and it cleaned some carbon out of my engine and other systems.
I did pass emissions, but I was wondering how accurate are those results for my everyday driving? I'd like to lower the figures in hopes of being a lil more efficient in daily driving.
As for the test, it was a pretty warm day to begin w/ (summer and all), the car sat in the shade for a 15 minutes while they setup, but the guy ran my car on the rollers for a lil while to warmup the car before he tested the smog.

seafoam cleans out all the **** in the intake manifold and whatnot that builds over time... carbon and oil ****.
I used to work at an emissions station and was a certified inspector for the one out here. Not sure how similar the program is out there though.
Like someone else said above... those readings look like it needs a new catalytic converter. Might wanna check out what the o2 sensor looks like at the same time.
Also you could do all the basic little stuff like changing plugs (if not already), fuel filter, wires (if ness and in bad shape), cap, rotor, etc, and **** like that. Make sure everything is in all in decent shape.
When testing in future, be sure to run good fresh gas and if you have to wait in line dont let your car sit idling unless next in line to be tested (shut it off it usually takes a while in these places unless begining of month).
My daily driver is a piece of **** almost 15 year old car and still passed no problem.
edit
oh yeah hydrocardons are unburned fuel fyi.
