Timing Belt Replacement?????????
Hey so i was jus cruison around and my car stopped... so we had to tow it home. the engine cranks over but won't fire... has no spark... my neighbor said it was the timing belt cus the rotor in the dist. cap wasn't even spinning.....
So... i really want to fix it up... nut i know i prob gotta get new valves in there too cuz i think i have a interferance engine.
I have only take auto 1 at college but taking 2 next year... do you guys think i would be able to replace timing belt, water pump, and valves at home with my knowledge?
how hard is is?
what tools would i need?
All i have in my haynes manual and instructions to do it from alldata.
thanks for your help

What kind of engine do you have?
I just replaced my timing belt and water pump on my h23a1, dohc 2.3.
I dont know how much you know about workng on cars, but if you have the tools and follow the manual it really shouldn't be a problem.

I used a helmes manual.
I had to take off the p/s pump, cruise control, valve cover and timing cover along w/ the side motor mount. I did not have to do the valves.
I repplaced the timing and balancer belt as well as the water pump.
If you want some advice get your hands on the right literature. Alot of this work, if your not a pro, is doing the research and reading the steps layed out in the manuals. And you also need the right tools.
I did all my work w/ a buddy in my garage a couple of weekends ago.

Buy a HELMS manual and read it good before you do anything. You will probably have to buy some tools and you will have to take your time and do everything carefully if it is your first time (which it sounds like it is). A timing belt is not the easiest thing to do.

Hawk gave you the link to the Helm site^^
All you have to do for the valves is take the head off and have a machine shop check it out for you. They can tell you what if any valves need replaced and they will have the proper tools to change them out and grind the seats if they need it as well.
good luck

I just replaced these and had some trouble. I think the exhaust cam gear is off by one 1 tooth (retarded), so I am having some low end power loss.
I think it happened because the crank moved a little before I was able to put the TB on and somehow I moved the E cam and the I cam stayed in place.
Anyone know how I can lock the crankshaft in place so that this doesn't happen again? Or is there a special way to put the TB on so that this doesn't happen?

http://www.spoonhonda.com . You can dl the helms from there for free. The service manual has all your answers. Route the belt in the correct order.

lol, that is it? I thought it was something more specialized, like:
remove belt from exhaust cam, remove from intake cam... etc.
OK.
When looking at the TDC mark on the flywheel, should I be viewing it from a 45 degree angle, from right above, what? It looks lined up from one angle, but is definitely not from another angle.
And lastly, when lining up the notches on the cam gears for TDC, they don't want to line up perfectly. I used the 5mm punches to hold the cams in place, but if I didn't do that, they would turn another couple of degrees. It is not a huge difference, but I am sure it matters. Is it more important for the cams to be where they "want" to be (off by a degree or two) or to have them lined up using the punches.
Thanks for all the help guys, I am sure I am getting annoying with all the questions about this timing problem.

You won't be able to set cam timing accurately. off the flywheel. Use the oil pump marks. Use a wrench to hold the cam gears as you put the belt on them.
