Seafoam 'ed Car, running rich. . . searched.
I'm not perfectly sure if it happened precisely after seafoaming, but I seafoamed my car recently, 81,000 mile EG2, @ the 3 common spots; brake booster vacuum line, gas tank, in oil. Obviously changed my oil afterwards, the usual, Mobil 1 Full Synth. Anyways now I'm getting this cute lil' black cloud when I hit vtec, allthough it doesn't seem to start precisely at vtec, but more of a High rpm kind of thing. I had a friend drive behind me today, said he smelled gas, with no doubt about it. Could seafoaming have had hurt some sensor? Maybe the crap that was disloged affected some sensor or something. Anyways. . . my car is tuned on chrome, on bolt-ons. NOONE has messed with my motor ever since. What could be causing this sudden change into crappy richness?
Cliff notes
* EG2 was seafoamed
* started running RICH soon, if not inmediately after.
* Bolt ons, tuned on chrome, noone has messed with my car for a LONG time. just regular maintenance.
* Gas smelling black smoke @ High rpms.
Thanks in advanced! And welcome back, NOFX

I did just yesterday and after that was when my friend followed me to check the smoking. If i had a good camera I'd take a pic of the plugs. but the seafoaming was like 2 months ago, would it last so long?
* THanks for the replies!

seafoam actually clean plugs, it cleaned mines up. Sorry to break it to you but your rings are bad and you are burning oil. Seafoam made your rings bad, either just by ahving it in your system or by cleaning up carbon. I do not suggest seafoam... I used it and afterwards everytime I gun it my car smokes like crazy and theres always black crud on my bumper.
Its not oil, I'm running rich. My friend saw the black smoke and it smelled like gas, I had him follow me while I floored it so he could get a good look and a good whiff of the stuff. I thought I was oil but he confirmed it wasn't. Also old spark plugs don't seem to show evidence of burning oil.
What about the 02 sensor? I'm running Crome as well and I just looked into the cylinders through the spark plug holes and the entire walls are covered in black carbon build up. I'm going to Sea Foam the car and retune with Wide Band and maybe change the o2 sensor.

Which O2 sensor? I'm not running the Header sensor, its not plugged. Plug didnt reach cuz of placement on header. Anyways when they tuned on chrome they did something in which apparently not having it plugged doesn't affect it at all. Something must've happened when all that carbon build up was displaced!
My car used to be perfectly tuned!

sometimes seafoaming and old engne is a bad idea. the carbon build up inside is what might be holding the motor together. if you clean it and wipe it all out, then you will have a motor that will burn oil.
wait till you finish the tank of gas that you have in the car and then if its still the same then your burning oil. other wise right now your still getting all the carbon out of the motor
1. 80,000 mile car/engine
2. seafoamed 2 months ago, many fill ups ago
3. my car was tuned on chrome with the O2 plug not plugged. Something about chrome that I think doesn't need that plug or something.
It can't be oil. It smells like Gas, its black smoke, that according to other H-T posts its running rich. Old plugs looked like my engine was running rich.
* Thanks for all the responses!

Thanks. Been back since the first.
I've only heard of Seafoam issues on high mileage cars. And I mean 200,000-300,000 and up. I've had it done to my car probably close to 140,000 or so and never had an issue. If anything, it's running a little tiny bit smoother, but that could be my imagination.
Black smoke is fuel though, not oil. Oil's blue. Granted I suppose it could be doing both, but everything is showing fuel.
I know you said you replaced them, but are the plugs properly gapped?
I'd go with the injectors if I had to guess though.

search... but the just of it is.... put it in your oil... suck in through the booster vacuum line into the intake...pour some in the tank... and follow all directions regarding amount, running and changing spark plugs oil ect. Used it once... and I will use it forever now
