Default Carbon Fiber Fender Weight

I'm not interested in if anyone thinks they'll look cool or how little weight they think they'll save... I've searched and found plenty of threads that show that people dislike them and that a few people think they saw somewhere that they only save 2-3lbs. I'm just curious if anyone acctually knows for sure exactly what the weight difference is.

To whom it may concern both of my fenders are in bad shape and I need new ones, if CF ones are even 1lb lighter I might still go for them, they don't rust and I'm probably going to paint them so they'll look the same. I'm just taking the chance to make the car as light as possible.

Thanks,
-Kurt

You just answered your own question by saying "even if they're 1lb lighter." Obviously, they're lighter than stock. As for an exact weight, just like any other fender or hood in CF, depends on the quality and thickness of the sheets. I had custom CF fenders a while back and they're worth every penny I paid.

Sorry to be exact I was looking at Seibon fenders. I forgot to mention that important piece of information. I've been leaning towards getting them but what I said was "even [if they're] 1lb lighter I might still go for them". I'm sure I could get one-offs made that were even lighter but I'm not looking for flared fenders like you had. So for me it would just be even less $ per lb saved.

I have a feeling I'll end up buying them, weighing them, test fitting them, THEN deciding whether I want to keep them or re-sell them... Not the most cost effective way to gather data but sometimes that's what it takes.

BTW... Your car was amazing, I remember reading all about it on here when it was getting put together. Didn't you sell it a little while ago?

So, why would it matter what the weight difference is if you're going to get them anyways?

When you get them, weigh them. Not exactly rocket-science.

just make sure you paint them. unpainted CF looks like *** on any colour other than black.

I'm thinking of some if I can find some nice off shelfs I'll up my front tire size, wouldn't hurt my hatch.

The factory fenders are so light already I dont think they will save you much, if any. The only thing I would be worried about is the fitment.

then why buy them in the first place when you could have used that money on track days?

your driving is going to cause a greater difference in laptimes than that hood and those fenders...

x2

OEM fenders weigh like nothing. I would also be worried about fitment. Most aftermarket parts I've had experience with, never fit as good as stock. All except Mugen that is.

hell, i work at a honda warehouse and i pick up fenders and hoods all day, if u want to give me a part number for a fender, i should be able to weigh it for u.

oh, and yes the stocks weigh very little, the cardboard they r boxed in weighs more that the fender itself.

I am a weight ****, and when I say don't waste your money, listen to me. I've removed everything except my dash, and part of my door panels. I cut impact beams out, I have no bumper supports, and I refuse to date girls over 125lbs. The fenders are not a big deal. If you are worried about weight just remove them all together.

hahahah what if she's 7 feet tall... 125lbs is damn near anorexic.

Or, you could always do what i did.
1. install roll cage
2. make sure the passenger side bars are crossed.
3a. only date girls who can crawl into the passenger side
AND
3b. can fit into a kirkey al. seat.

I think taking a huge poop before your race will provide more weight savings than the CF fenders, but... that's just my thought.

I only date girls under 5'6" in addition to my weight requirements. So that keeps the anorexic **** to a minimum. Besides that in my HF their knees get in the way going into 5th or reverse if over 5'6". In my KRX it is a non issue thanks to dash mounted shifter. I usually never drive the KRX though so the HF's ergonomics are more important. It's a good thing I have an attraction to short skinny girls. Otherwise I'd have to drive something else.

Buy some Volks. Not only will you reduce your rotating mass, which is more effective than just regular mass. Your wallet will also weigh less. Thus preventing you from buying stupid **** like CF fenders.

As far as weight is concerned, get some aftermarket, not oem steel fenders. They are actually thinner steel, so therein lighter.

X2 on everything. I dropped 30lbs by ridding a bicycle for a few months. Also use a D series engine. They are lighter than all B, H, or K.

I didn't think about that one, the d-series is much lighter. If its a crx, look into lexan for the rear glass, that is one heavy piece. Do you have a sunroof? Look into taking that out, and the associated motor and wires.

The set I put on wasnt very light. For the purpose of weight saving, they are not worth it. For function (if they are wider) they are worth it.
