Default fuel pump doesnt always prime

i have a walbro 255 fuel pump and some times it does not prime and the car wont start it doesnt always happen only once or twice a week depending on how offten i drive it. could it be the main relay? also if you turn the key back and forth it will eventually prime but sometimes it takes up to 20 minutes of messing with it.

99% it's the main relay, that happens a lot.

This is the time of the year these things go for some reason. When i worked at the dealer years ago cars would get towed in all the time for the main relay. I would have to say they are effected by the heat because the amount of cars that came in for that issue during the summer months was damn near double the amount.

for what its worth one of my customers car had a chipped ecu that would be finicky about getting the fuel pump or prime. switched out the chipped ecu to a differant one, and the problem was solved.

there was just a thread exactly like this while go... but my hatch does this from time to time. ive opened up the main relay and its mint.

my crx use to do this in the heat all the time and i opened it up and one of the solder joints inside had a slight crack in it so whenever it gets hot out it expands and doenst make contact i guess. i just threw some solder on it and it has been for years.

but i dont understand why my hatch is doing it... i have a walbro pump as well..

Yep, check the big capacitor in the ECU. It controls the fuel pump and goes out too.

Your issue as mentioned is more then likely your main pgmfi relay.

The c14 cap usually just fails all together at once. Regardless it is always a good idea to inspect to inspect your old cap for leakage.

Thats the reason I said it. I had a car act like the main relay, but was C14. Matters how it burns the board or fails.

just smack the relay with a screwdriver and it will fire right up.
