New Honda Civic - Quick Impression
I just purchased a new 2008 Civic for my wife. I had to fly from Detroit to Chicago to get the car as there were no EX-L's with navi in the Detroit area (and the Detroit dealerships didn't even want to try and bargain). On the drive back I kept the speed to about 59 mph on cruise control and was amazed at the fuel economy. At the end of the trip I expected to put in about 8 or even 9 gallons to re-fill the car and was shocked when it only needed 6.7 gal - that made it 43 mpg for the trip which did include some very slow patches through Indiana for construction. That type of mileage is simply stunning!

The fuel tank is 13.2 gallons. It takes more than 1 fill up to calculate your fuel mileage.</TD></TR></TABLE>
No need to be a dick, he's just commenting on the mileage he got

Not for one trip. For that trip, he calculated 43 mpg. Sure, the overall mpg will be lower, but for his trip, the car did well.

Anyone know how much better I can do with a CAI?</TD></TR></TABLE>
That's terrible. I get 25mpg 80/20 highway/city and that's WITH my mods.
Unfortunately you won't see dramatic results with a CAI. It's mostly driving habits.
Keep in mind as well that reducing your speed from 75mph on the highway to 55mph could yield up to a 20% savings in fuel. Obviously these results vary from car to car and other factors come into play....but undoubtedly you will get more out of your tank if you just change your driving habits.
If you're only getting less than 20mpg out of your car then you are most certainly doing something wrong or driving mainly in the city.

I shift 1-3-5-6 and drive mostly 55 on the freeway and the trip reaches 300 just as the low fuel warning light comes on. I use cruise control everywhere, some call this hypermiling. I will be installing a water injection kit soon so I can step down to 87 octane while picking up a few MPG's.
great job dude thats kool
got an si and i actualy average 260 full tank or sometimes a bit better no granny shifting either no bullshit

op- cruise control in a brand new car? bad idea.
kid- i've heard from a few people that the new civic's transmissions don't do well with drivers skipping gears. No solid factual info and don't feel like digging it up, anyone else heard of this?

my GTI VR6 gets 325-330/tank and it's mildly modified...
