Default What kind of head gasket should I buy?

I have a blown headgasket on my stock DX (118K miles). It's leaking radiator fluid through the passenger side. The previous owner didn't take care of the cooling system. They put water in it instead of radiator fluid in LA, and it was all rusted out. I was able to flush the system and didn't have to replace anything but a few hoses, but it seems the HG has gone.

I want to replace it with an MLS HG with ARP bolts, but I don't know what manufacturer to buy from. Felpro, cometic, et cetera.

Since your engine is stock if I were you I would save my money and buy oem head gasket and oem head stud bolts.

Thanks but I'm just worried that I will have to do this again. The stock HG seems weak. I don't know...

Yes, it's a stock DX, I don't race.

Yeah, I will have it checked at a machine shop. Do I have to add a sealant to the gasket? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWD1V

Can't go wrong with Felpro, IMHO!

Torque it once and that's it...

BTW, make sure your block and head are flat!

A blown HG is usually indicative of a more serious underlying problem - they don't blow for no reason...

Here is a pic of my HG and where I think it's blown. Does it look normal?

Hard to say...

You gotta take it apart and use a machinist's ruler and feeler gauges to see if the deck and head is flat.

Lol!!!

Just go stock HG and Studs. You dont need any aftermarket on stock engine unless you are a ricer and whant to brag to your friends that you gained 50hp because you have a Cometic HG. Get a y8 from a 96-00 EX enginehead gasket which are about $35 much cheaper then any other engine at Honda from what I understand. I always re-surface my heads just to be safe so maybe its not a bad idea if you do it.

^^^Make sure the copper spray can go with whatever head gasket you buy. It does not mix with Cometic head gaskets, I learned that the hard way by blowing it after only 100km's.
