Longevity of XX compression
I have been talking to John at Hytech for my motor build and for my purposes he recommended 12.1-12.5 compression. I know that he is a very reputable builder and I am in no way doubting his knowledge. However, from talking to others (local engine gurus, etc.) about my build I have been told that 12.1-12.5 compression is not a good idea for a daily driver seeing 40 miles a day. At that rate it would only last 40-50k miles. John has told me that compression, built right, would last 100k miles.
Any help?
Any help?

And whose credentials outweigh whose?

Longvetity depends on a lot of things, tune, fuel, driving habits, etc. I honesty can see both sides of the argement but I think your actions outwiegh almost all the other factors given you start with a comptent build and tune.
If you want 100k out of motor then buy a stock car and don't mod it and don't race it.

You ask one of the best known and respected names for advice then listen to a bunch of locals?
That's like skipping stock tips from warren buffet to listen to some high schooler.
A lot of things factor on engine life.

I believe there are some factory cars (non-diesel) that have 11.5 or 12:1 CR. Local engine builders are not tuners or engineers. Their knowledge is limited to basic assembly most of the time...
