what is involved in converting a non-vtec civic to vtec? is it just a head and ecu swap? i going to get a '96 to '00 civic. i havnt bought it yet im just trying to figure out if i should spend the extra to get the EX. thanks.

 

head, ecu, and wiring. you also need to remove the cap on the oil jet when u remove the head. from the research ive done, the wiring is kind of a bitch (i hate wiring). im sure if youre debating between engines, buy one that's VTEC already. my d15b sohc vtec was like 450, to me, its not worth the headache doing the conversion unless you just have a VTEC head lying around.

those little D15B's are bad *** to btw lol your better off just buying a VTEC engine. if you have the funds for one get a B16. reletivley cheap and decent performance

correct me if im wrong: the 96-00 hatchbacks never came with vtec...

 

i dont believe the USDM 96-00 civics did.. the JDM civics..yeah?(if they were the siR or si) i think.

they came in SOHC VTEC, d16y8 i think.

 

the wiring isnt that bad, you just need to run a wire from the VTEC solenoid to the ECU... i dont have the wiring diagram for an EK but im sure its the same as an EG

oh yeah!! my mistake...i almost bought an eg with the d15 vtec..lol

 

I had a D16Y8 and I could never notice Vtec. Truth.

 

96-00 civic dont have oil jet to pull out so all u need to do is just slap the head on.

The oil jet would be in 92-95 civic or older.

the wiring is [freak]en easy dude just get the jumper harness.

im about to do a mini **** is only costing me 200.

buying a b16 is useless

i dont believe you can really feel the vtec when it engages on the single cams.

i can kind of, more noticeable after i installed my crower cam. i installed a VTEC light too to make sure VTEC is working, i might suggest you do so as well.

 

Dude, seriously. Can you post anyting in any thread that doesn't pertain to B20? Not everyone wants your truck motor.
