Default Fresh valve adjustment, fuel pump n filter, plugs wires cap and all. Big misfire and tick!!!

so i posted about this about a week ago but got no responds. I just did a valve adjustment on my car, put a new fuel pump and fuel filter, and all my plugs wires and everything thing is new. but when my car hits powerband around 4200 it starts missing out real bad. my a/f meter shows im not leaning out but it feels like a miss. its a b20b w/o a vtec head. fully stock and has roughly 39k on it. i think it might be from changing the pump and filter and if anything was caught up in my lines it clogged the injectors and the odd thing is, when i pour a can of seafoam in the tank, it runs better but not completely. and in idle you can hear a tick in the head and it speeds up when i give it gas so i know its something in the rotating assembly. any thoughts? please help cause its making me nervous

Recheck your valve clearances. Were the adjustments made while the engine was cold?

i would try new injectors... a relatively inexpensive/non-labor intensive try.

Regarding your bogging down situation it seems like it can be a fuel issue since you replaced your fuel filter and fuel pump. It can possibly even be some ignition components that have not been replaced.

I'm almost positive that the ticking that you're hearing from the head just needs to be adjusted back into proper spec. Just double check the valve lash clearances, because my car was making the same sound you described "the ticking ticks faster as the rpm's rise" when my homie accidentally over reved my car last week. The valve lash adjustment fixed that problem right away.

Unless it's ROD KNOCK your hearing?..nah just kidding bro.

Goodluck

wtf are you joking? If not, then GTFO... or maybe you should anyway because that's pretty ghey choking out grossly incorrect information like that.

Valve adjustments are ALWAYS done with a cold engine. Helms specifies the engine head temperature must be below 100 deg. F

To the OP, definitely check your clearances again. I botched my first valve adjustment and it had a crazy loud ticking sound. I checked over it several times and it seemed fine. Finally about 2 days later I went back and checked again and found one exhaust valve had somewhere over .030" clearance, when it should have been at .007"!

Easy buddy, Yes on a Honda, valve adjustments are done when the engine is cold. But on some cars, manufacturers recommend valve adj to be done when engine is warmed up.

well, we're talking about Hondas, so he doesn't need to be posting incorrect information.

I'd be curious to know what cars require valve adjustments done while the engine is hot? The whole purpose of putting a gap between the rocker and cam lobe is so that when the engine does get hot and the metal expands, there will be no gap and less valvetrain noise.

Don't limit yourself to Honda. What car manufactureres require valve to be adjusted when warm? How about chrysler, dodge and plymouth just to name a few. google it if you like.

Well I don't have one of those to work on, nor will I ever own a vehicle from Chrysler.

I used to work on Rolls and Bentley they don't require valve adj. to be done warm. But just because you don't work on them, don't doubt such requirement exist. We are all on this forum to learn.
