Default 1G B16A - activate VTEC sooner

Based on what I learned from my brother-in-law's dyno tuning session, VTEC can be activated sooner to produce higher (than stock) torque several hundred RPM earlier in the rev range. I'm not interested in spending the kind of money I think it would take to switch to OBD1 and add Hondata (which is what he did). Are there other good options to activate VTEC sooner in the RPM range for an OBD0 B16A?

There are alot of vtec controllers out there. Im sure theres one for obdo but Ive only used em on obd1. Try the origanal buddy club for a cheap alternative.

My understanding of a VTEC controller is that it only changes when the VTEC switches over, but will not do anything to adjust fuel, etc.

Are there controllers that will make adjustments to fuel and timing for OBD0 engines or are there companies that can program a chip for the stock ECU?

The apexi unit can adjust fuel and automatically advances timing.

Nice. So does apexi recommend intitial settings for fuel and ignition?

Do I need a little dyno time?

it advances and retards based upon what you do with the fuel

So if you add fuel it advances? or the other way around. Yes you would need some dyno time to obtain full benefits.

Maybe I shouldn't assume this engine is switching at the correct RPM. At wide open throttle this engine switches around 5200 RPM. Is this when a stock B16A should switchover?

If you have not modified the motor to make it breath better, lower the crossover is not going to help you.

there is no replacement for an chip/tune or ems...

Problem is that you don't switch maps when you engage vtec earlier.
