Default My car is not legal. Please help!!

I was pulled over today and they want me to take my gsr to a referee. The car has a b20 with cams, headers, and the basic mods. I live in CA to make it worse. Does any one know how to make this crv motor legal or get around this?

Are you sure I have to take it out. I came across an old post on here by "GoCarInteg"
this what he said about his b20

"well according to the state ref and sdpd, it's legal. got it smogged at a ref and passed"

i had a b20vtec in my 95 2dr integra and it passed no problem i also live in CA. it wasnt a shady smog or anything. you just need to find someone that really doesnt care about the visual and it should pass. im sure there are plenty of random smog shops that just want to get you on your way and out of their place.

you will need to take it out and put the original motor
because thats a mini suv motor and just on visual you will fail already no question's ask cuz the first thing they do is pull out a diagram on how the motor suppose to look like and if you dont have it on the right place then you will fail.
good luc

The b20 looks almost identical to the b18. I hope that I can pass on a visual.

If you just had to get it smogged then u could have a chance but, the state ref will notice the b20 which they consider a light truck engine. Then it really all depends how the ref is, if u can't put in another engine make sure EVERYTHING is hooked up correctly just like stock and see what happens.

More than likely, the ref is gonna know his ****. Technically, the B20 is not a car engine, its a light truck engine as stated above, so that right there will make it fail. Your best bet is to go down there with the car and ask him. He'll tell you what you need to make it legal, or if you have to swap it out. The ref will have his own smog testing machine too.

My local state ref knew everything there was to know about B series honda engines. He told me which B16s could be made legal easy, he knew the B16B could never be made legal, and even knew which cylinder heads belonged to which motors stock (so no LS/vtecs or OBD1 poor-man's ITR). I played dumb, and he totally schooled me on it, lol.

the nevada thing works... the smog people here in reno dont give a **** as to what it looks like... and if you cant find a smog guy who does. go out to sunvalley, the place is right next to a mini car lot... hes a shaddy man and will hook you up... good luck...

o and sunvalley is 5 min outside reno...

good luck...

Thanx for the advice. If i get a shady smog do you think they smog me again at the ref? What I need is a shadey ref. How bout cams and headers and stuff do the give you a hard time about that? I might have to find the cheapest ls moter possible. Do the componets like the disributer and all that from the b20 fit the b18?

The headers will have to be carb legal with a carb number on them. You maybe able to get it bar'd by the ref. I would just take it to the ref and that will be your best bet for info on how to make it legal. And as everyone is saying the visual will be what will fail you if anything. My car passed everything but visual due to my intake and header.

The police don't want me driving the car till I get the issue resolved. I have to go to court after I see the ref and if they catch me driving it they are gona impound my vehical and arrest me.

well take it to the ref and if you get pulled over on the way there just tell the cop that is where your going. You maybe able to get the motor bar'd so that it will be legal for your car. Good luck
