Default Z10 Girdle, YES or NO? ---> LS/VTEC already built and running. Should I add a girdle?

Alright, so I just finished building my LS/VTEC with no girdle. It runs great and put down 187whp @ 8000rpm. All stock OEM Honda Parts.

My tuner said that I should get a girdle since I plan on running the motor past 7k.

He said that he recommends the Z10 girdle because it doesn't require any machine work.

I already have 1000 miles on the motor. It runs great.

The Z10 girdle does not require any machining, just the use of ITR main studs, ITR Windage Tray, ITR Oil Pick Up and ITR Oil Pan.

My main questions are:

1. Has anyone here blown up their LSorB20/VTEC due to not having a girdle?
2. Can I just put the girdle on now and not have to worry about align honing?
3. If I add the girdle now, can that cause any problems?

I do a lot of autox and like to keep the engine in high rpm's.

ive never heard or seen anyone blow a motor up from not having one. the b16's dont have one and there great for autox. it deff would be some peace of mind but i wouldnt do it with the motor already running. you would wanna check the main tunnels to see if it makes them out of round

running a girdle will adversely affect your cooling capacity. I wouldn't recommend it.

Can anyone confirm the need for the ITR oil pan/pump/pickup for use with the Z10? never Heard such a thing.

I don't really have a lot of experience with that gridle but if your motor is already running good, why mess with it now. Getting the right torque on the mains in car is not a fun task.

only the grs/typeR(the same) baffle plate and pickup screen will clear the girdle and IF you use the ls oil pan, the pickup screen will hit the bottom of the pan cause the gsr/typeR pickup sit lower. Thats why you use the gsr oil pan.

Girdles over rated.
700+hp turbo cars with 10,500K RPM range, with no girdles. Alot are running it this way. If those setups are beating it up at that HP level. I'm sure a 200hp all motor isnt going to need it.

yeah i feel the same as exospeed they cant hurt unless the distort the mains but alot has been done without them. I would focus somewhere else on tbe build.

if the motor was meant to have a girdle, it would have come stock with one straight from the factory.

*EDIT* ok ok...i'll cool it off just for today

yeah man if the motor was meant to have big cams, high compression, and rev to 10k it would have came that way from the factory.

the z10 does in fact need machining, you would be stupid to not align hone/bore it after you installed it because it affects the shape of the mains. i run a gsr girdle, and had it checked for roundness and i liked out since it was fine and didnt need a hone.
