Piston Pin Installation & Removal Help - JINOTIQ...
Ok im currently rebuilding an LS (B18B1) motor as a temporary
my questions are:
1. Is there a way to remove the PISTON PIN without the use of any hydraulic tools?
2. If yes/no, Does anyone have any experience running PR3 pistons w/ PR4 rods in an LS, and what other modifications are necessary in doing this; considering everything is stock?
All responses/opinions/tips/criticism/recommendations/experiences are welcome!!
P.S. I've searched literally everywhere on this topic, if you find a link regarding this for a HONDA, I will be really embarrassed!

They don't have to be. A little heat on the rod end and a pin right from the freezer can do wonders. Taking them apart might be a different story.

Huh?
just take it to a reputable machine shop prefferably a honda engine experienced shop.
not really hard to do with the right equipment but with the wrong equip you could scuff the crap outta the piston and the pin bore.

You need to have the old pins pressed out w/hyd press. The new pins can be put in w/a rod heating machine. It's really tough to do it w/o the machine because the pins get set very fast and you need to have a stop set so you do overshoot or undershoot the pins location by guessing when your in far enough.

get one of the propane torches from home depot...the Blue bottle. Spark it up and put some heat on the pin. Since metal shrinks the pin will slide right out. Sorry can't take pics of the process. but its overall easy.

i wonder if its a difficult process, because i was jus thinkin i could get something else done at tha shop and ask them nicely if they could jus remove them for me realy quick
well im a lab technician, i cut lenses
since its my specialty, if i owned all tha lenses, i still wouldn't mind cutting perscriptions for free if someone bought something else from me
removing piston pins is a service, im sure is incredibly easy for "a shop w/ experience" to do.
please, ms. contraption, stop hating life and dont try to be a such a keyboard gangsta, help a kid out.

to everyone else, appreciate tha responses
i jus needed more people to tell me i couldn't remove it myself because i tried sooo hard takin it out, i took a socket and a hammer and hit on a "practice piston" and tha thing wouldn't budge

Somewhere, Sometime, Some one said, you get what you pay for. Hard to bitch about a deformed, broken piston when it's done for free. I do like the Propane, big hammer routine though, I think that is a Yates or Hendrick thing, could be HPD, not sure.
ive seen a cast piston crack even with a hydraulic press because the kid didnt know what he was doing. so even with the right tools it can be shady for someone without experience. I machined a jig and pressed some out from my own pistons with no ill effects but doing it with a hammer i can see the pistons cracking before the pin budges. for what they'll charge its worth bringing it to a shop, time is money.
Ive pressed them out with a press after heating them with no problems.
Also is it just the difference in expansion rates that causes the pin to come out easily(usually) when heated ?

If not, you can ask if you pay for them to press out 3 pistons, if the 4th is free.
