EF Engine mounts - any need for the front gearbox mount?
Hi guys,
I Have my EF9 pulled apart, ready for Paint, now, I have my front Cross member out, just thinking about removing the front cross member gearbox mount off completely? removing the bracket from the cross member,
I am going to replace the OEM mounts with the Innovated Billet mounts, semi race inserts, so fairly hard,
now a friend mentioned that the engine will rock back and forth alot without that front mount, any one tried removing the front mount?
any problems?
should I just keep the front mount?

As a motor mount Co, you are safe with polyurethane mounts and not running the front mount they will be plenty stiff enough without the front mount.
The engine shouldn't rock back and fourth to the extreme like you mentioned you should be fine

I think most people around here run without the front mount, when running harder mounts everywhere else.
cool...
Yeah my friend mentioned when he ran without his, using OEM mounts, his header used to hit.
just double checked my mounts, theyre got the red inserts which are the street mounts,
you lads think these are hard enough to avoid movement?

got another numb nut question:
the rear engine mount, how Do I unbolt that from the rear cross member?
the front bolt, no problem obviously, but the rear bolts, I can't get any tools in behind to get to them???
Do I have to drop out the Cross member?

There are two ways to get that nut
A: You can crawl under the car and stick a 17mm box wrench up there from behind.
B: use a hammer to whack the mount sideways until you can see the nut.

I'm running Innovative mounts with the 75A inserts, no front mount. At several points in my RPM range, my rear view mirror is useless because of the stiff setup and vibration.

Yup. That's what I do, mainly because I don't have a swivel extension
