motor build and questions
Hey guys this is my first post and i have a few questions Im hoping the you can answer because it'd be more than helpful to me! Ive used the search and didn't get my answers
To start out... I don't know a lot about forced induction so id prefer to stay away from this for my own personal sakes. (I could do it but id prefer not to, even just a JRCS system) and id love to go all motor just because thats me. So my question is what would you think personally of this setup on a B18 type-R engine: (btw i have the money for it)
Benson complete race engine (85mm bore)
OR
Golden Eagle 85mm bore sleeved B18 block
Golden Eagle main girdle with dowels and ARP mainstuds (needed for BC stroker kit)
BC B18 95mm stroker kit (12:1 c/r , with 85mm bore)
Buddy Club Spec V Camshafts
Skunk2 Cam Seals
Omni-Power dual valve springs and titanium retainers combo
Omni-Power Intake and Exhaust Valves
Buddy Club Racing Spec Cam Gears B-series
DH-Racing B16 STAGE 2 HIGH FLOW HEAD
AEM cold air intake
BLOX intake manifold
Buddy Club spec III racing exhaust
DC Ceramic 1pc. 4-1 header
Endyn Breather Tank Kit
Moroso Baffled OEM Style Steel Oil Pan
JDM Factory Genuine Integra DC2 Type R Final Drive Gear Set 4.785
Spoon Engine Damper
Cusco universil oil catch can kit
Id also have the fuel setup be complete (440cc high impedance sat. injectors, plus all else) as well as adequate cooling, drivetrain mods., and minor modifications to the ignition. and all gaskets and many other parts will be replaced.
I've read alot how stroker kits are good yet not so good since they're tough on the cylinder walls and have a shorter rod to piston ratio? and that's bad for higher rpm's? any info on that would be great. and id like to do the stroker for the torque it'd give me. (even if its not alot)
This would all be tuned on a dyno after what I think of to tune it with. That's between an Apexi VAFC 2 or Hondata S300. (or tell me what you think I should use please!)
And my last question is a bit odd but... will the rocker arms be okay even with the constant high rpm's? I have no idea where to even find OEM type-R ones.
Thanks again guys cause im kind of a noob at this!

because that is the ghetto piggy back way of doing it...i would recommend hondata, you could also use crome, ECtune, or neptune...i prefer hondata , but they can all be used to tune pretty much any set-up with unlimited settings

That makes perfect sense. thanks boots! i was really hoping that with the amount of people viewing, id have more answers. even if its just one
from what I know, that header won't work out the best... if you've got the money, go for something better...(SMSP, https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2289682, hytech, or even one of the replicas would probably work out better )
bump to help this guy out..
edit: probably look elsewhere besides the omni springs, retainers and valves..

thanks for the bump! I kinda need it. why switch the Omni Power valvetrain? iv'e heard it works perfectly with the spec V buddy club camshafts? Ive also been told to stay away from the skunk 2 valvetrain too. the more and more i keep thinking about it and researching it... the more i want to stay with the standard ITR valvetrain.

Drop the DC header. SMSP or RMF or Hytech.
Whats wrong with S2 valvetrain? Just be sure to use the pro valvetrain with pro cams. Otherwise go with a Supertech valvetrain. Theyre tested to work atleast with the S2 Pro2 cams and BC spec 4.
I also got the Omnipower valves but the guy who did my headwork said they were chinese crap and that Supertech was a better choice for next time.

hey thanks! appreciate it. i did decide to go with the supertech valvetrain because of the reputation it has, and I did a few different changes too to my plans. Apparently no one has heard of DH racing, so I'm going to change my port and polish to Benson racing. I'm also going to go with OBX ITB's, and the stroker kit instead of the Benson Block package. My header choice is also going to be Hytech, and my final cam choice is the Buddy Club Spec 4 cams. I'm still skeptical on the stroker kit though! Ive read good by a few shops that have used it before, but Ive read how its bad for high rpms useage and it rubs against the cylinder walls (which is why I'm having them sleeved also bored for a higher gain), and the last thing is that I'm not sure if they take out the oil squirters for the pistons? any help or advice on my plans is great! and thanks to the guys so far who have helped out!
spend all that money just to go with some bobo ITB's that will eventually cost the same to get running as a "brand" set.
no one has heard of DH racing? i dare you to click the red word at the top and type in Dave Hickman or DH Racing in recent and archived threads and see what they all say.

Well FYI ITBs are really good for road racing. Midrange. But generally they arent worth the money until you NEED those extra few ponies. And if you do the stroker, it kills the R/S ratio so youll want to limit your RPMs, which is OK because then you wont be so focused on high RPM power. Again, midrange.
I wouldnt recommend the ITBs unless you feel the need for the engine bling.
I would however recommend Mike Belben for head work but he's pretty much done with Honda work. He got a little overwhelmed...
Oh and you listed 2 breather kits there...go with the EnDyn kit
Do a little reading on http://www.theoldone.com. It's interesting if anything.
And yes, you have to remove oil squirters with a stroker kit but if you're looking at a B18A/B or a B20 they dont have any anyways...
Are you looking at one of the blocks that GE has for sale right now? https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1828254
Seems like a hella deal there.
Anyhow, keep us posted!

Why?
I'm sorry but I'm gonna sound real rude and call this:
4) E-Racing/Bench Racing/Guess my 1/4 or HP
There is no place for it here, it is not productive, frequently leads to arguments, and is generally pointless. Go find a dyno or a drag strip.
Anybody who is serious about building a 95x85 is not going to use:
-An AEM "cold air intake"
-List S2 Cam seals as a mod
-Use a DC header
-Add both an Endyn AND Cusco catch can
-How bout the "Spoon dampner!?"
-JDM Factory Genuine Integra DC2 Type R Final Drive Gear Set 4.785 - LOL!
What'd you copy and paste that off of google or something??
If you've searched, you've found what people are making. You've learned what camshafts to use, what induction and exhaust manifold to use, how to tune, etc etc. Come on man......

ha. dh racing is known around here. he's just been forgotten. i think honda-tech refers to him as DICK HEAD RACING!
(to clean rice) Sorry. I can see that is counted as bench racing and I apologize. It wasn't my intent to break that rules in any way. Second off, I only put cam seals and engine damper etc. in there to see what people would say about them. I like to hear what recommendations or opinions people on this forum have about what I put even if its entirely not for the engine. (btw cusco catch can wasn't supposed to be in there.) The reason I put that I had the money was becuse I've seen lots of posts where people reccomend not to do things because of how much money they cost. I just wanted to clear things up right away. I didn't copy and paste, but I did take the wording pretty exact in some places. I just wanted to give as much information as possible. I'm not trying to be criticized either; I don't work on motors, I just want to learn how to and make something I'd be proud of and love to drive every day. If you feel the need to harass what I put down instead of helping in any way, then don't bother. Thanks patriot for that info btw. I'm going to do some changes again that should work out much better for me.

Hey hey man, I am not a person to apologize to...I'm just another member on the board JUST LIKE YOU. Not an admin or mod, just another dude. Good luck with your build guy
